Senior British League - weekend 1 roundup

Senior British League kicked off on Saturday 7th September with Bromley competing in divisions B2 and C6 of the event this year. the competition is held across 4 weekends during the annual calendar with divisions of 8 teams playing each other twice. Bromley I travelled to Westfield table tennis centre in Wellingborough with Bromley II playing at Bromley.

Bromley I started strongly winning close matches against Sommerset Sabres and Shrewsbury College with a score line of 5-4. Bromley II has a difficult start to the event this year with a weakened line up conflicting with a difficult set of first matches. Bromley fought hard on Saturday but lost both matches 9-0 to JLM TTA and Huntingdon TTC. Both of these opponents offered strong competition and will be competing for the league title this season.

Sunday saw a reversal of fortunes for the teams. Bromley I went down swinging to Lillington and Godalming Simpley Let. Bromley II welcomed Jamie Cartwright back into the fold adding strength and experience into the teams higher order for Sunday. Some real gutsy performances and 5 set wins saw Bromley II win 7-2 against Corby Smash and 5-4 against Westfield TTC.

Teams from this weekend:

Bromley I: Tom Savary, Tom Watson, George Carroll, Frank Carroll

Bromley II: Jamie Cartwright, Peter Canavan, Mark Nicholls, Ryan Cox, John Patel

Big thank you to the home supporters who did an amazing job of assisting with setup and put down of equipment. Special thanks to Sue Garburt and Martin WillIan’s for giving up their weekend to support the event.

SBL Weekend 2 takes place on Saturday 30th Nov / Sunday 1st December.
